Apr 8, 2015 8:24 AM in response to JackFosterby Sentry04,Just got an iPhone 6 and it shows there are 16 podcast, but as it "updating library..." it crashes. I've tried all the suggested fixes. None of them work. I have no issues on my new iPad. Glad I still have my iPhone 4s and running iOS 6. Podcasts still work there.

Apr 10, 2015 3:13 AM in response to JackFosterby lra0811,My Podcast app was fine until I updated to IOS 8.3 Now I have emojis, but my podcast app won't play anything I have downloaded, nor will it download anything new. I can listen to podcasts on other apps but not the native app.

Apr 28, 2015 3:37 PM in response to lra0811by heyitstva,Same thing happened with iPhone 5s, latest IOS (8.3) and latest iTunes. Podcast app crashes when I attempt to go to other applications, or switch podcasts, or download new podcasts. Really there isn't much that you can do to not make it crash while playing a podcast or download new ones. Eventually you get lucky and it keeps playing for some reason, but it's hard to guage why.
I have currently tried:
- Rebooting phone
- Hard rebooting phone
- Upgrade both iTunes and IOS
- Restore phone from back-up
- Restored phone as new (losing all previous application data)...
... and still nothing. Still crashes. I have an open ticket with Apple to try to get them to acknowledge that the fix is required with the IOS but no dice yet. Still no response from Apple.

Jul 13, 2015 5:57 AM in response to JackFosterby zmix,I had this happen to me two days ago.
Very frustrating but I fixed it.
I do not think it's OS or HW related. I think it's due to a corrupted "library" database file.
In my case it was happening on my iPod touch 4th gen, which is capped at iOS 6 (thanks Obama!!).
This device is WIFI only, and putting it in "airplane" mode didn't change a thing, the sequence was always this:
Boot Podcasts, wait a few seconds and the "refresh" spiral arrow would turn into a spining segmented wheel of death and crash.
What I did was to try to get into a podcast, press "edit" and delete a few *before* it crashed...
Once I managed that (after many many tries), it still crashed, but upon relaunch, it finally gave me the "spining segmented wheel of death" but with the notification "Updating Library" and now it's fine...
This leads me to believe that it is a corrupted "library" file that causes the crash.
Hope this helps someone...!
