Why does iTunes keep asking for my password when I want to listen to my music on my iPhone?

When I want to listen to music on my iPhone, iTunes keeps asking for my password. I am not purchasing anything. It started today. Why is that?

Hi There,

There is a number of reasons why this could be happening, and a step I would suggest taking is signing out of your Apple ID on your iPhone by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store, tapping your Apple ID email address and choosing Sign Out. From there, sign back in.

From there, try listening to the music like before, and the "loop" you were stuck in should clear itself. If you continue to experience the issue, I would contact iTunes Store support directly for assistance.

Hope this helps.

Same thing is happening to me on my iPhone! I listen to music everyday and suddenly on thursday or Friday this started happening. also on my desktop computer it keeps telling me I need to authorize this computer, but when I sign in it says this computer has already been authorized. But it will ask me to authorize the computer again about 1 minute later. I deauthorized all computers, and deauthorized all again, but this is still happening.

I Think there is something a bit glitchy going on. I noticed similar on my ipad and iPhone 5s since about then too. It only happens if I look at my songs in artist and or album view. I think it something to do with the cloud symbols in as much as the app always likes to offer 'complete album' or complete series. It's annoying but it is very intermittent at the mo. Maybe if you switch off cloud purchases from viewing it may stop but I don't like disabling this as I like to see everything I purchased.

I Noticed even in iTunes for windows browsing the store sometimes is lousy for past few days. I will click say the TV shows tab and it won't load in so I have to click another tab like apps and then it will load the store featured items, then I will try TV shows again and it will load. This has also been very intermittent but it happens a bit.

I've been having the same problem on my iPad and iPhone. I talked to Apple customer service this morning. They had me do the following on both devices in the Settings:

* Sign out of iTunes & App Store

* Sign out of FaceTime

* Sign out of Game Center

* Delete iCloud account

They also had me restore my iPad due to some glitchy behavior in the Music app.

Things seemed to me fixed for a few hours until I went into the iTunes Store app on my iPad and added a movie to my Wish List. When I went back to the Music app, the dreaded "Sign In to iTunes Store" popup started showing up again on both devices. Suspicious!

So, I cleared out my Wish List in both the iTunes Store and App Store. I've been poking at the Music app on both my iPhone and iPad since then I haven't seen that popup once since then. I'm not going to declare victory yet since it's only been an hour or two, but I thought that this was worth mentioning.

Yep. I also have this - it started on Saturday 28th June for me (UK). All three of my iOS devices have started constantly asking for my Apple ID password. I've not checked the Mac yet. I put it in and yet 20 minutes later when I unlock the phone it's asking for it again.

I'm sure it's a server side thing as nothing has changed client side from my understanding - there's been no iOS updates and only 1 app update since Friday. It's almost as though it's happening when it's checking in the background for App updates. I may turn off auto-updating apps and see if that helps.

Also - I have iTunes match on my account - is that also a common thing between those of us having this issue?

Last night i read about how signing out might stop this irritating phenomenon. I signed out of iCloud and lost some stuff but nothing major. Then I restarted iPad and d/led latest iOS software. After install, I signed back in once and haven't had any sign-In hassles. Maybe it's a fluke and they'll be back nagging me to constantly sign-in for no reason, but something is clearly different. Oh wait that's the drugs, never mind.
