My Ipod was stolen. It was a purchase for a holiday a few years ago and is a 4 or 5 generation IPOD Nano. I'm trying to locate the purchase online so I can turn in for insurance purposes. In addition, locating the serial number.
Can anyone give me some advice?
You may be able to get the serial number from your support profile: https://supportprofile.apple.com
If you purchased from Apple online, the orders are available online for 18 months but you might want to contact Apple to see if they can go further back. There is more information at http://store.apple.com/us/help/viewing_changing_orders#invoice
Yes:
Open iTunes on the computer you used to sync the iPod / iPad / iPhone and select Preferences… from the iTunes menu. (In Windows, choose Edit > Preferences.)
Select the Devices pane. Position the cursor over any of its backups. Its serial number will appear in a popup window.
