I recently transferred my personal checkbook register from iWork (Numbers 08 on OSX 10.6) double column entry (Debit/Credit) into iWork (Numbers 09 on OSX 10.8) single column entry (Debit as negative credit as positive) and all negative numbers show in parenthesis and I would like them to show as red. I have checked but am unable to locate this in Numbers Preferences or Inspector. Where is this parameter now located?

In Numbers 09 it is in Inspector > Cells Inspector. After you set the selected cells to Cell Format of Number, to the right of Decimals there is an option for how negative numbers are displayed.
You can use Conditional Format to turn negative numbers red:
The cells can be formatted as Automatic, Number, or Currency. If formatted as Currency you can toggle the use of parenthesis by checking or unchecking the 'Accounting Style' checkbox.

While that did the trick, I just wish there was a parameter in Numbers Preferences that would do this to all spreadsheets instead of having to do each document individually.
