I currently am operating on a 2010 Mac Pro with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card (two minidisplay port, and a single dual-link DVI) . The machine has been upgraded to 10.8.X, and has 16GB or RAM. My 30" Apple display is on its last legs. I cannot confirm whether the following display could be fully utilized with the installed video card-

3440x1440 is running beautifully (at 60 Hz). I had to buy a Mini DisplayPort to displayport cable causr the one it came with was full size dp on both ends but that was only another $8. I had the same questions before I purchased the monitor and couldn't find a definitive answer online but everything is fine. Actually, my machine seems to run a little smoother now compared to running 2 24" displays (1900x1200)

Hi i know its a fairly old thread, just wanted to post here my results with 2009 Mac Pro + 2010 MacBook Pro and LG 34UM95.

im sure you have solved your workflow by now, but I write this as i would have found it very useful to get a direct answer when i was trying to figure out the compatibility of these products before purchase.

I hope someone else will find this post useful.

I have a late 2009 mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB. OSX 10.8.5. My LG 34UM95 runs smooth 3440x1440 @ 60hz, with a standard Display Port to Mini Display Port cable. No upgrades software or workarounds needed.

My 17" Mid 2010 Macbook Pro with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512MB OSX 10.9.5 Runs the 34UM95 smoothly at 3440x1440 @ 30hz with a standard Display Port to Mini Display Port cable (same result as with display port to HDMI cable) but does not run @ 60hz. useable for most tasks, not great for gaming and super smooth video playback.

attached is a screengrab showing this + rusults from "ufo motion tests". Its a breathtaking monitor, best purchase ever.User uploaded file
