My Mac is acting up, couldn't see the screen well, and I accidentally clicked on my own reply as "this answered my question". Can I give back the points to the real person that helped me? Can this action ever be reset in case it happens again?

No. Please be careful when you are clicking on a points button to be sure you really intend to do that. If you make a mistake you cannot correct it.
To answer what may be your next thought, the hosts can't change or reset it, either.
Thanks! Wish they would change that. At least give you one chance to redo, maybe for a short period afterward. I could see how anything more could be abused/unfair.
