How do I restore Chrome Bookmarks?

I accidentally deleted more than 5 years worth of bookmarks in Chrome and I'm desperately trying to restore them.

All the advice I'm seeing online says to browse to the Application Support / Google / Chrome etc...and then within it will be bookmarks or bookmarks.bak but I do not have this same folder structure as described (see my structure in the screenshot below) - and I did a search for bookmarks and bookmarks.bak but nothing came up.

I'm using OSX 10.8.5.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it - I'm ill knowing that I've lost this much info and research.

Thank you!

Does anyone know how to fix this problem when it occurs on Chrome for iPhone? When I hit "clear browser cache" in Settings, it seems to have deleted all my mobile bookmarks or at least hidden them from me. I did not log out before clearing cache.

Hey Kreatism,

I just stumbled upon this rather short thread, obviously because of making the same mistake, and was wondering if you came across a successful solution? I used the link provided from drewturn75 with unsuccessful results. I do not have the 'Chrome' folder within the Google folder, as you have shown. I'm hoping you are able to give me any insight.

Thanks,

stuhlmmc

Unfortunately this solution is coming a little late for you stuhlmmc (although locating this folder to backup your bookmarks may still be useful for you), but I've just discovered a solution to the missing 'Default' folder (from the thread drewturn75 posted).

If, like me, you were trying to access this via Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google - you won't find it there, even when using the "Go To Folder" option. You must locate it within Macintosh HD/Users/jonny35/Library/Application Support/Google.

But in order for it to appear, you must first type the following into Terminal and press enter:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

This should make the Default folder viewable.

This should work, at least if you're using Mavericks. Hopefully this will be useful to others having this issue.
