I have an iPod (4th generation) and I don't know how to update the iOS… How do I update it?

I haven't used my iPod for much in a while, and I've started to use it more now. I can't use the apps I'm downloading, though, because it says that I need to download a newer version of iOS. Unfortunately, I cannot find where to update it.

The 4th gen iPod Touch can only be updated as far as iOS 6.1.6. If you have a version of iOS that is older than iOS 5 you will have to connect to a computer with iTunes, select the iPod from the devices listed in the left panel, then choose software update in the main Summary panel. If you have iOS 5 you can update using iTunes on a computer or you can update over a WiFi network by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Either way will take you to iOS 6.1.6 directly.
