Numbers -- How Do I Launch With "Open Recent"?

I've just upgraded my OS and my iWork.

In Numbers I used to have the option of "Open Recent" -- as I almost always want to use one of a handful of sheets. Now with 3.2 I get the "Choose a Templet"

Of course I can go file > Open Recent but it would be easier if I had the option up front.

I'm sure there is a way ... any advice?

Thanks

Hi Jay,

While I do know what you are talking about I am not getting the template chooser most of the time I open numbers. I am getting an open file window pointed at the last place I saved a file. If I ignore it and do the flle>open recent thing it goes away. Likewise with the template chooser- I don't have to close it to use file>open recent. To get to the template chooser there is a button "new document" in the open file window.

Thanks guys.

Ian. Good call sending me to preferences. My screen did tell the program to show the template user.

But as much as it bugs me to see the chooser if I click the "Use Template: Blank" I get a new blank sheet on opening. Almost all of the time I go to Numbers to use an existing file.

My file menu looks like yours

And I certainly can go that route.

It's just that before the "Open Previous" (or some such) was a button on the template chooser.

What I'd like is when I launch Numbers would be to have the "Open Recent" as the starting option.

No big deal.

Thanks for looking out for me.

Hi Jay,

Look in a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. You may still have Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) on your machine.

Wayne Contello has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork.

The trick is to drag icons for both versions to your Dock. Right click or control click on each and Options > Keep in Dock. That puts you in charge of which version you launch.

Here is a screen shot of both Numbers icons on my Dock.

Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) on the left with a three column graph.

Numbers 3.2 on the right with a four column graph.

Both versions will run happily together. Just be sure which version is opening your document.

Instead of double clicking the document, run whichever version of Numbers/Pages/Keynote suits and use File > Open.

Ian.
