My rear camera is not working after I did 7.1.2 software update this morning. I see a blank screen when I click the camera app.

All,

I am experiencing the same problem. I updated my iphone 5 to IOS 7.1.2. It went into the iTunes screen during install, so a factory reset + icloud backup was needed to het it up and running again. Then the touch screen frozes, this was solved by doing a hard reset.

And after that the back camera is not working, the front camera keeps on working. But the camera app has some delay when starting.

I have tried the trick as mentioned in this forum post, but I am still without a rear camera. This is a petty since that is one of the features i use the most on my device.

Regards

I've also tried all the steps, I even restored iPhone 5 to factory settings and last night and everything was working perfectly again but about an hour ago the camera stopped working, battery is draining, having connection issues with facetime as well as nobody being able to see me on their end, and alarms/ringers/text notifications only work sometimes. Took the phone into Apple and the gentleman seemed surprised by all the issues and said he'd just switch out my phone but then saw it just passed it's warranty date so he could only give me trouble shooting tips and reset the settings. This is so extremely frustrating that a phone I got less than a year ago has now turned into a faulty mess overnight because of Apple's own software update

So my camera was fine until yesterday and pressing on the lens did not work so I went back to looking for solutions:

http://www.cydiaios7.com/back-camera-not-working-after-ios-7-update-solution.htm l

The article is from last year (IOS 7), but solution 1 worked for me. Here are all the solutions from the link:

Solution 1

  1. Hold the Sleep button until you see the Slide to Power Off slider
  2. Slide it and then immediately hold down the Sleep button again until you see the Apple logo

Solution 2

  1. Open your Settings app
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Reset
  4. Tap Reset All Settings

While you won’t lose any of your data you will have to re-enter all of your passwords and personal settings again

Solution 3

  1. Hold the Sleep and Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears
  2. Let go of both buttons at the same time and let your iOS device boot up as normal

Solution 4

  1. Try a different camera app instead of the stock one – downloadCamera Awesome, free of charge, from the App store
  2. Install and both cameras should work properly.

Hello,

still no camera, so I thought maybe an upgrade to IOS 8 will help. So as a developer, i downloaded IOS 8 beta 4 this evening. The install went very smooth, but i already upgraded my Ipad to IOS 8 so I did not expect any problems.

But still NO camera, so I guess I have to continue without my camera until my next iphone 😢, hopefully 19/9 this year, an iphone 6, but that will be a long 2 months

here is some more information. I called Genius Bar in Amsterdam shop (The Netherlands), they told me I should try a factory reset, but still it does not work after that. So now currently I am facing 3 problems with my iPhone:

* camera not working (can't fix it by software, so it must be a hardware problem)

* usb connector problem, my phone does not charge correctly unless, when the cable is tilted a little bit it does charge correct :-(

* on/off button working very bad (this is a known problem, and my phone is applied for the repair by apple, but the guy from the apple shop told me it is a reparation and not a replacement, to bad, otherwise it would solve my other two issues) https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/

==> next step, maybe a trip to the apple store and try to get a replacement phone, but probably it will have 'water-damage', like i already had on 2 other phones (3GS & 5), which is probably normal as i am using the phone for 1 year and 10 months constantly, so i'm still considering if I am going to to this, but I will post the updates in this forum thread

:-(

This identical problem happened with my iPad 2 when I upgraded to IOS 7.1.2 Went from having a fully functional iPad with NO issues to an iPad with a malfunctioning camera. I have tried every imaginable fix--from resets to factory restore to downloading 3rd party camera apps to pressing on the lens etc etc etc. Spent hours on the phone with Apple "Care" (what a misnomer that is) and they recommended going to the Genius bar. Made an appointment, drove an hour to get there, waited an hour (even though I had an appointment) and as soon as they heard "no warranty" I was out of luck. Asked to speak to the manager--same deal. When I said that thousands of people were reporting this same issue on message boards for both iPad and iPhone, he adopted a shocked look (as if I was the first person to report this) and then said that with any upgrade "a small number of users" will experience a bad outcome. So, that is pretty much saying that my "bad outcome" is the result of the upgrade which you would think Apple would take some responsibility for. Some Apple techs have suggested that I re-install a fresh copy of IOS 7.1.2 in case I got a "corrupted" copy, again, suggesting this is a software issue. I know of quite a few people who had this problem and the Apple store replaced their iPad or iPhone on the spot even though their warranty expired. It just boils down to extremely bad (and very selective) customer service and I am rethinking making any future Apple purchases after this experience.
