Contact on iMac and iCloud

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are looking to set up. You are saying that your information is currently syncing correctly between iCloud and your iMac, yet you don't appear to have a local copy of the information? If you store your data on the cloud you don't have to have the local "On My Mac" contacts or calendars. Ususally, when you setup it merges everything from "On My Mac" to the Cloud.

Why would you want a duplicate? You can export the data as backup if that is your concern.

I'm not sure if you can set a default calendar.

Not sure I am understanding why you would have two separate Contact sources? What OSX is your Mac running? If you are on OSX 10.7.5 or later, then you can set up iCloud on your Mac, and then sync Contacts between the Mac and all iOS devices using iCloud.

Can you explain why you are keeping separate lists?

I advise that you not do what you want to do, it is difficult to manage .... !

Go to Preferences General>Default Calendar to set defaults, same with Contacts etc.
