ical looping ****

I merged calendars and I guess most of the events on both calendars are duplicates. I keep getting an alert to ignore or try again - "The event “Memorial Day” was rejected by “iCloud” because it already exists." I have clicked these hundreds of times and they are never ending. How can I get out of this maddening loop?
