Currently Being ModeratedSep 16, 2006 1:52 PM (in response to Bushido Philosopher)I have a 5G 60G Ipod that was also freezing. I pulled the download for the 6/28/06 release, but before I applied it, I figured that I'd try reformatting (RESTORE from Itunes7) staying with 1.2 and see if that made anything better.
Of course, I reloaded back 6500+ songs, rebuilt the files/directories that I had when using it as a drive, and reloaded my photos and Pod casts.
That all happened last night.
I'll let you know how it goes, but so far so good.
Currently Being ModeratedSep 16, 2006 3:08 PM (in response to Bushido Philosopher)yes thanks it worked for meWindows XP Pro
Currently Being ModeratedSep 21, 2006 2:39 PM (in response to Bushido Philosopher)Nothing new I can say except to add my complaint to the list lest Apple needs more convincing.
My 30Gb 5G is hard resetting randomly after the upgrade. Extremely annoying.
Apple, make the announcement your firmware 1.2 ***** and shutdown your site from offering it to anymore victims. Provide a fix. It is a REAL PROBLEM.Windows PC, Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedSep 21, 2006 4:20 PM (in response to bieugor)Itunes 7 has KILLED my ipod.
I went to do the update and now it is completely dead. It wont turn on, or restart and my Mac doesn't even think its there when I plug it in.
I tried to run the older iPod updater but it tells me to plug an Ipod in....when its already plugged in.
I'm gonna take it home and see what my MacBook Pro thinks of it - cos that still has the older version of iTunes. If not I think I might have to go to the Apple store and see what they say. Its still under warranty thank goodness...
On MAJOR problem - all of my music is on it and I can't access it in any way to be able to get it off.MacBook Pro & PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.4.7)
Currently Being ModeratedSep 21, 2006 4:24 PM (in response to Bushido Philosopher)This may not be an answer people want to hear, but I found that simply Restoring the iPod before putting the new firmware on kept any problems away from my iPod.
When I saw that it was going to determine gapless info on every single song on my iPod, I hit the stop button and just restored it. Then upgraded the firmware. Then moved music onto it.
No problems ever since.a grey one, Windows XP Pro, it beeps at me
Currently Being ModeratedSep 21, 2006 5:36 PM (in response to Bushido Philosopher)I installed iTunes 7 and haven't had any problem with it. I had wanted to update my iPod so I could get games on it but the update button wasn't clickable.
I realize that a lot of people have had problems but also that some have not.
Do you think it's worth it to give the update a try and hope for the best?
If I do and it goes wrong is there a chance I'll lose all of my music? cause I have 5,000 songs and they're not all on my computer so that would be a major problem.
So I'm just asking for a bit of advice i guess.toshiba satellite, Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedSep 21, 2006 5:43 PM (in response to jackphil)i sent my ipod to apple cuz of this problem, let them fix it for me, hopefully it wont have that problem once it is back, i hope the turn around is quick i am going through ipod withdrawl
Currently Being ModeratedSep 22, 2006 1:47 AM (in response to jackphil)jackphil, if you value your 5000 assets, I'd advise against upgrading or least back it all up before doing. Mine is performing random hard resets whenever it feels like it, very frustrating. Search the forum and you'll see others have worse variations of this reset problem. This version 1.2 is a real flop, how the heck did it pass QA? I will revert back when I find the time.

Currently Being ModeratedSep 23, 2006 6:08 AM (in response to musicdude)well, i tried this and worked. after u uninstall itunes 7.0 and take ur ipod's installationion cd and get back to itune 6.5 u couldnt open the old itunes version because of a library conflict. Anyway it did install the old ipod updater. So well, if u open the ipod updater and it says: Invalid ipod service (it happened to many hundreds of times)u could unplug the ipod and then open the ipod updater. In this case the ipod updater will not recognise ipod (its not plugged in fact) so it ill show u a message with all version it has. Well, in that momento u must plg again the ipod but Wait!!!!!!. YES!!U WILL SAY : i cant because my ipod is frozen. so well, u must plug it and restart it inmediately (select/menu buttons pressed during 6 seconds) and the ipod updater will recognise it and will allow to restore it. Well this worked for me. C ya!
