iPhoto library causing kernel panic

Hi, strange problem here that I'm hoping you can help with. I am 99% sure my iPhoto library is causing my Mac mini to kernel panic when iPhoto isn't even open.

I say 99% sure because this is the second Mac mini this has happened to with the same iPhoto library. I purchased a late 2012 2.6Ghz i7 mac mini running Mavericks a couple of months ago and after migrating over all of my files etc I started having kernel panics when the computer would wake from sleep. I worked with apple support for a few weeks trying to isolate the problem and they finally just decided it was a DOA machine and sent me a new one. With the new machine I was a bit more calculated in adding files, first running the computer with nothing added for a few days, then upgrading the RAM, then adding my iTunes library and finally adding my iPhoto library by copying the library file from my external disk into the pictures folder of my new mac. Within hours of adding the library the computer experienced a kernel panic.

I can open iPhoto just fine and browse all of my pictures. I've imported pictures from my iPhone just fine too, but somehow the library is causing kernel panics behind the scenes.

One other note that may help. This library was actually first on a macbook pro laptop that died (hopefully salvageable with a new HD but we'll see). Before we knew that the laptop was dying however, my wife was importing a bunch of pictures from her iPhone and the computer restarted mid-import. There were a few anxious hours after we turned the machine back on where it wouldn't recognize the library at all and we thought all of our pictures were lost. We were able to repair the library and get access to the pictures and promptly backed them up but I'm wondering if the library was corrupted at that point and has remained so.

Would rebuilding my library help in this situation? Should I try importing the pictures into a new iPhoto library knowing that I'll lose albums/faces/etc? Any other thoughts or action plans? I deleted the library from my computer in the interim although I'm now nervous that it will have corrupted my machine and I'm going to come back tomorrow to a gray "your system restarted..." screen!

Thanks for any help in advance

So my fears were realized, the computer restarted this morning without the library. I'm convinced that adding the library somehow messed something up that remained messed up even after I deleted it. Here is the KP log from this morning:

Where did you get the RAM and does it match the required specs exactly? Mavericks is picky about RAM and a lot of "cheap" 3rd party RAM will fail when put to the task with a memory intensive operation. Check the seating on the RAM and retest. If no improvement do as Linc suggested and reinstall the original memory modules and see if the crashes continue.

The RAM is from Crucial via Amazon and I confirmed with a Crucial support rep that it is compatible, although their product numbering is kind of screwy. Going on the Crucial site right now it says I need a different product # than what I have, but the rep said retailers often use different product numbers. I even downloaded Rember and tested it before moving anything else onto the machine. Does this sound like a plausible diagnosis? The faulty/non-compatible RAM performed fine with nothing on the machine but once I loaded the iPhoto library there was enough workload on the RAM to bring out the issues. Although why would I still have issues even after I deleted the iPhoto library then? Would something be saved in the cache that would still be tasking the RAM?

Thanks OT, I've gone ahead and reverted back to the original memory and am in the process of re-copying my iPhoto library to my machine to test (which will take some time with our 185GB iPhoto library). I will post back with what I find out.

RE the Crucial memory, I didn't download the app, I put my system specs into their tool and then searched amazon for the part number it gave me as I had some Amazon gift cards I wanted to use. It recommended this:

16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64

part #:CT3650379

I ordered this from Amazon:

Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L 1600 MHz (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204-Pin 1.35V/1.5V Memory for Mac CT2C8G3S160BM

Again, I chatted with a Crucial rep who assured me that part # CT3650379 and CT2C8G3S160BM were the same, but I'm starting to wonder if he knew what he was talking about.

Thoughts?

You could contact Crucial and see if they will replace the modules directly without having to go thru Amazon for a return. The other recommended source of memory is otherworldcomputing.com. I've purchased a lot of stuff from them but not memory.

If Crucial will work with you I'd try them first. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, I talked to Crucial and they seem happy to replace but they are trying to figure out why what I have isn't compatible. They asked me how many chips were on the stock modules and said that an upgrade needs to have the same number of chips. The upgrade I have has 16 chips, he suspects the stock memory has 8. I'm not at home so I haven't been able to look to see how many chips the stock memory has but have you ever come across this? Memory not being compatible due to the number of chips on the module?
