Using iPad for Keynote Presentations

Can I use my iPad for keynote presentations connecting my iPhone to use as the slide advancer? I only seem to be able to use my MAC for keynote presentations connecting my iPhone or iPad as the slide advancer?

what's 'Keynote Remote'?

Keynote Remote is a function built in to Keynote iOS, the Keynote app for iPhone and iOS.

I want to use my iPad to present keynote and want ideally to use a clicker.

By "clicker" I would guess you mean a hand held remote control?

These do not work with the iPad or iPhone.

If you want to use a hand held remote, you will need to use a Mac.

I don't want to use my iPhone in case I drop it during a presentation plus it's just more cumbersome to hold than a clicker.

The options for controlling an iPad running Keynote are using an iPhone or iPad with Keynote using the Remote function or software remote apps like ROMOTE, see the App Store for these applications.
