10.6.8 -- how to auotmatically mount `shared` Macs on network

Does anyone have a link to an explanation of how to automatically mount other Macs on the network, or if not, then post an explanation here on how to accomplish that objective?

For example, my Mac Pro tower has 4 disks and when I boot up all 4 disks are mounted. Then, when I turn on my Macbook Air and turn on my MacBook Pro, those laptops show up in Finder as shared. The Macbook Pro is partitioned, so it would be nice if I could specify which disk to mount in Finder.

Hi lawlist,

If you wish to mount shared network volumes automatically soon as you log in, you need to place those items in your startup items. Use the procedure in this article -

The article title says it is for Mountain Lion users but the procedure is the same for Snow Leopard.

Note that you will want to manually mount the volume before doing this, so you will be able to find it when you try to add it.

Make items open automatically when you log in

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Users & Groups.

Select your user account, and then click Login Items.

Click Add ➕ below the list on the right.

Select an app, document, folder, or disk, and then click Add.

If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, click the Hide checkbox next to it. If you select a server (disk) to connect to automatically, the Hide option has no effect. Server connections always appear in the Finder after login.
