iCloud only syncs data from iCloud enabled apps (such as Pages, Keynote and Numbers). You would have to ask Intuit if Quicken Essentials provides this (http://quicken.intuit.com/support/mac.jsp).
Quicken would also need to be sold on the Mac App store, iCloud sync is limited to App store apps.
However, I would test it out carefully to make sure the file survives the uploading to Dropbox and the upgrading when used by another Mac. I know that iPhoto Libraries cannot be shared via Dropbox due to the construction of the library's package. So have backups at each end and test carefully.
I don't know about Essentials but Quicken 2007 files corrupt if accessed from multiple machines in my experience.
If the essentials file is a package with an ecosystem anything like Quicken 2007 or iPhoto Library packages it will be a disaster. Thanks for the feed back.
He probably would be better off keeping the file on a flash drive and moving it between computers. Formatted OS X Extended (journaled) of course. AND keeping a backup copy on each computer.
Thanks for the help and information, I really appreciate it

I have one suggestion.
Essentials will allow you to export a backup copy of your file, do that and use it as the transfer file. Export a backup of Mac A, restore that backup to Mac B. Reverse and repeat to go the other way.
No danger of corruption that way.
Thank you very much, this answer makes TOTAL sense!!!
