My intel macbook wont boot from snow leopard install dvd

I have intel 2gh MacBook late 2009 aluminium running 10.5.8 and I bought the original dvd of snow leopard to update it to 10.6.3 but my mac cant readthe install dvd and injects it out all the time. How can I do the update or install a fresh copy to a new disk?

What is the problem?

Take the DVD to another Mac to find out if it will boot another Mac (one that came with an earlier OS X system than 10.6.3.) This will at least help determine if the DVD is good. If it is then either your optical drive is bad, dirty, or needs alignment.
