Q: IOS 7.1.2 is buggy, don't update

After updating to 7.1.2 phone started to randomly restart for a couple of hours, then finally it shut off.  Now its stuck in the "Connect to Itunes" and wanting me to restore to factory then restore.  Great.  Thanks.  Luckily I have an iCloud backup this morning, but I'll have to reinstall all the apps.  For what I've seen so far, this update is buggy, install at your own risk.

Three devices updated, no issues whatsoever.  Just a hint, simply because you have had issues does not make an update "buggy". And if you backed up your apps, you shouldn't need to re-install them individually.

Well, it was buggy for me.  I've had an iPhone since the 3G, and this was the first I've had a problem doing an update.  Afraid to update my iPad Air now.  I use iCloud to back up since I don't want to hook my phone to the computer, so yes, I've had to redownload all my apps.  It's working now, just time consuming. Must be something in their install they didn't cover correctly.

I am not disputing that you had issues. Just your claims and warning to not update. It isn't justified.

It seems your post was indeed warranted...had no problems updating iPad mini  & iPhone 4s but my 3rd gen iPad has to be restored, which means I will lose my photos! What a drag! Ugh!

Any software on any kind of device will show some 'bugginess' on some devices and there's always some degree of risk. It's the nature of computers. The vast majority never have a problem so your 'warning' is not called for. For the record I have 5 idevices and not once have I ever had a problem due to software upgrades.

DON'T DOWNLOAD!!!  Totally messed up my ipad.  Half way through it told me something was up and I had to do a restore - OK, I think, no problem!!  Big problem!!!  So I restore it, and I get to the screen where I have to tell it to restore from itunes, icloud or start new.  i click on itunes, then nothing, so I go back and click on icloud, cant restore, something wrong with backup.  This is after doing several hard and soft starts.  I had to start my ipad anew.  Not impressed big time!!!  2 hours wasted trying to fix this, and its still not completly fixed.

Updating bricked my iPhone 5. I cant't restore it at all because iTunes doesn't recognise my phone at all. I can't restart the phone either, due it being one of these "problem" iPhone 5's that came out with dodgy sleep/wake buttons, in saying that it doesn't work at all.

I'm so glad I bought this phone. So glad. Apple make amazing products.*

I have the same problem! Went to update my 5c from iTunes (not on the device) and It crashed or something mid way and now my phone screen is frozen with the pic of me plugging it into iTunes, but now the iPhone won't even show up in ITunes? All I can do is shut off/power down my phone and then turn it back on to see the same frozen screen. Can anyone help/ know what you have to do to fix it.

    Glitch: Stuck on Apple logo

If your update, wrong then you may well find that your iPhone is stuck on a blank boot screen or on the Apple logo and it won’t start up properly. You’re going to want to connect to iTunes and try DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode.

    Solution:

    • Hold down the Sleep/Wake button to turn your iPhone off.
    • Open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone.
    • Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for ten seconds, and then release the Sleep/Wake button.
    • Continue to hold down the Home button until you see a pop-up on iTunes stating that “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”
    • Your iPhone screen should be blank, if you see a logo or message on it then you are not in DFU mode.
    • Select your iPhone in the left hand column of iTunes and select Summary then Restore.
    • You may need to install the iOS 7 update again.

Yeah, I just had to do that to my phone to after spending hours of just trying to install iTunes on one computer and then realized it was already on another of my computers. Now I'm having to factory reset my phone just to update it. Plus the update is taking forever. Yeah, I'm not happy with this new update at all.
