Jul 13, 2014 5:25 PM in response to enosmacby rycm,It's true that 7.1.2 is "buggy". Of the 5 devices I have (2 iPhone 4S, 2 iPad (2 and Retina-3), iPad mini - the iPhone and mini hung about 3/4 ways into the installation. It had to be hard rebooted, no a big issue, but after that , it seems to work very well. the battery life of my 4s has improved somewhat, so at least that's a positive for me.
Otherwise from that installation bug, I had no issues with 7.1.2

Jul 14, 2014 8:29 AM in response to Ruthannieby Ruthannie,When I went to the Apple Store for help with what I thought was a glitchy 5S, they ran diagnostics on it, turned out it was a hardware mal-function. This is not the first time I've thought a system update was buggy and it was a hardware mal-function. This has happened to IPhones, MacBook Pro, Ti PowerBook, G3 Towers, Quadras, IIvx, aside from dating me, it shows that sometimes coincident with updates, hardware breaks.
So my iPhone got swapped for a new one. Since I use iCloud, all that was required was login and sync and my "new" iPhone was ready to go.

Jul 14, 2014 8:42 AM in response to enosmacby cride,I updated my iPhone the day iOS 7.1.2 was released and my iPad a few moments ago. Both devices are fine. I did run into the problem of the update freezing 3/4 through on my iPhone. I had to do a reset to complete the update. I haven't had any issues.
I don't think the "Don't Update" statement is warranted. You should say "Updating is buggy; beware!" instead.

Jul 14, 2014 10:30 AM in response to Kilgore-Troutby genec220,yeah...the claims to not update are justified. i went through "recovery" on my 4 and after several retries and over an hour of hassling, iOS will just switch me to my home screen while i'm in the middle of typing an email. some one said "enough to make me think about going back to windows." true story..well maybe not windows but maybe some alternative.

Just like all of these claims are justified! If you believe nonsense like the above you would still have iOS 1.0 on your phone!
Don't update to ver 2.0.2 on your I Phone!!!
Re: 2.1.1 can't do adjustments now. Don't update to 2.1.1

Jul 15, 2014 4:33 PM in response to ericfromwellingtonby ericfromwellington,Hi all,
The iPad has been with an authorised Apple Service center for a week now and they have decided they cannot fix it, at replacement will cost $588NZD plus the diagnostic cost.
It was an iPad2, I highly doubt that it is worth replacing, given I can get an iPad Mini from the Apple Store for $450 including postage, with a warranty
I will be interested in finding out if the update to 7.1.2 was related to the death of my iPad, or simply a coincidence...

No. If the device cannot be repaired, it is due to a hardware issue, not installing an iOS update.

Jul 16, 2014 2:25 PM in response to enosmacby Orbit Storm,A few hours after updating to 7.1.2, my six-month old iPhone 5 has been repeatedly crashing and entering recovery mode. I spent several hours struggling to get the device to respond long enough to do a restore, amid all of the technicolor displays. I managed to get an entire day's use out of the phone yesterday (having done the restore two days ago) and as of today, it is crashing and demanding yet another restore. The only thing I've changed on this device in the last few days was installing 7.1.2. I've had no issues updating before and did nothing differently now that I did in previous updates. Suffice it to say, 7.1.2 has a whole lot of flaws.
I'll likely do another restore and use a backup dated from sometime last week. Perhaps that will fix this nonsense.

Jul 16, 2014 8:30 PM in response to enosmacby Patrick2x7,I updated my iphone 4s to the latest IOS 7.1.2 and was fine for a day or so. All of a sudden my phones touch screen stopped working except from answering phone calls. To add onto the fact that i am unable to power cycle my phone because the power button is broken. Also, my iPhone will not connect to iTunes or even be recognized. I guess its the luck of the Irish!

Jul 17, 2014 4:25 AM in response to Patrick2x7by reMarkable88,It's hard to say what is more frustrating: the loss of use of your iPhone after the update or Apple's unwillingness to admit to a problem. I've recovered most of my data, and moved on to another phone brand. It's kind of an eye-opening experience to see what others can do with technology and to realize that no one company is the best. My next step is to replace my iPad with a tablet from another company.

Good luck with that. I have just finished updating (over the past couple of weeks) over thirty iPads and at least 70 iPhones. Not one hiccup. I am guessing that your updating problems may well follow you into whatever smart phone/tablet you choose.
Look closer to home for the problem. Another OS platform may not help you at all.
Best of Luck
