Jul 25, 2014 3:34 PM in response to Ginger_Jinjaby petermac87,Thus the reason you should ensure that you DO have a backup before applying ANY update. Even though only a tiny percentage of people have had issues, (it may look more here in a Troubleshooting forum, but is reality these forums only represent a very small percentage) it seems that most who did failed to backup their iDevice.

Jul 26, 2014 7:07 AM in response to petermac87by PoochJD,Hi Again,
Unfortunately, petermac87, there are people like me, who DID backup their iPhone and had access to four different iPhone 4S backup files from the past month, and each time iTunes backed the files up, it said the backup went fine, but once it came to restoring my same iPhone (after applying 7.1.2), none of the backup's worked, because iTunes kept telling me that the backup's were each corrupted!
So what do you do then?! What you end-up doing, is what I did: spending hour after poxy hour, faffing around trying to get your iPhone back up-and-running once more, through no fault of your own, simply because a user tried to update their iPhone in the first place!
If an update is going to cause this much grief and hassle, and I DO count 10 hours as a lot of unnecessary grief-and-hassle, then Apple needs to get its act together, and sort out a better form of Customer Service, to users who end-up bricking their iPhone's/iPad's through no fault of their own! Simply telling customers "It must be something you've done" is NOT acceptable Customer Service! In Apple's view, (and some of the user's on here too), it's never the update's fault, but always something else!
No it well isn't!!!

Well, it probably is both. There are so many apps in the store nowadays that it is completely impossible to test the combined effect of all combinations of installed (& running) apps on an upgrade, even less so to test the various states those apps can leave a device in after it's been running for a given amount of time. There is a reason why I always booted my Mac off a cloned, external boot disk before applying OS X upgrades to the internal, main boot disk.
Of course that still means Apple have to acknowledge that issues after upgrading aren't necessarily only the user's fault. Esp. if said issues persist after doing a complete reinstall. It is also a pity that the way to downgrade (and the time lapse in which that's possible) isn't documented more clearly, and apparently not even something Genius bar personnel will (is authorised to) propose - if not even to do the upgrade to the latest OS once more...

If you haven't noticed there are more than just English speaking users on here.

Jul 26, 2014 3:18 PM in response to enosmacby enosmac,I originally started this thread.
First off, I'm a computer science major, so I'm well versed in coding and testing.
Apple obvioulsy didn't test this release enough as far as the installation/update procedure. As from this thread you can see people have had issues updating.
I love Apple, just stating the obvious that they didn't test the installation of this release well enough.
If you didn't have an issue, then good for you, as you are not in the minority. However there is no need to troll, as it is apparent many people have had issues installing this update. If you didn't have any issues updating, good for you, but there is no need to put down those that obviously did.
That said, once the update is installed, it is very stable.

So it is only unstable when not installed? Thanks for clearing that up.

So, you, a student, know more than all the people who have actually gotten degrees in things like computer science and who have gone on to get jobs at one (if not the) top tech company in the world. Obviously. Just like, obviously, all the millions of people who are not posting that they are having a problem are wrong.
