A few hundred (if that) people who can't update their phone successfully does not constitute a system problem

You're missing the point. Why is the OS designed in such a way that downgrading it is a bad idea in the first place?
Because it is not relevant. IOS is the way it is, if that is not to your liking there are only 2 choices, adapt, or change OS.
So you don't know, either?
I neither know or care, why should I, I can buy it or not, it's my choice. If I do not like the way Apple products work I can buy something else, not complain that Apple did not make it the way I want (as they won't change it just for me) or the few other people in this thread.
Buy something else, something that does not require you to to complain about it.
Well, if you don't know and don't care, why didn't you say so in the first place?! The way I want? Who wants TV shows with the first half in alphabetical order, skipping some, and then the remainder in episode order, skipping the ones already in the first half? Who would want that? Who would want a scrubber bar that's almost impossible to bring up, or is this discrimination against those with fat fingers? Who wants to have their video blocked by some huge stupid symbol when it could easily be done so much better with a thin bar with tick marks? If I walk across the screen during your sports game, would you not be upset with me? Hey, it's only a couple of seconds. No, you and everyone else in the room would be screaming at me.
As far as choice, there isn't much. It's not like grocery shopping. I even said I was considering getting an Android.
I was mostly trying to get an answer to the downgrade question and simply mentioned all the problems I could have avoided if I could downgrade. I wasn't complaining about them per se; I was just using them as illustrations.
Actually, Apple did change two things just for me: they fixed the scrubber bar in 5.1, and they took out that stupid speaker-volume icon from videos in 7.1, or 7.1.1. Hurray! (Though it still pops up over apps when you adjust the volume of music.) It's weird. I saw almost no complaints about either, yet these are the ones they fixed!

You are now simply becoming an annoying and arguementative troll with nothing relevant to add. Give up while you are only this far behind. Your credibility is already in tatters and you refuse to follow any advice given.
but good luck lol
Pete
I did follow advice, my problem was fixed, and I thanked Mr. I can't remember his moniker for it. Obviously you missed that post.
And your post here is any better? I'm just frustrated that I can't get my point across. If you find me annoying, why don't you just skip my posts? I find that person with the problem with the phone he got from someone, but can't fix because he can't find that someone to get some secret code or whatever, to be annoying as it's the same thing again and again. I skip over those posts and I don't complain about it! You can do the same.
Understand and answer my questions, and be clear about it, and all will be fine. Dodge my questions, don't give clear answers, and I will re-post to try to clarify. It's as simple as that.

And yet you're still going on and on and on about it.
Is the fix not working?

Apple obvioulsy didn't test this release enough as far as the installation/update procedure. As from this thread you can see people have had issues updating.
So, you, a student, know more than all the people who have actually gotten degrees in things like computer science and who have gone on to get jobs at one (if not the) top tech company in the world. Obviously. Just like, obviously, all the millions of people who are not posting that they are having a problem are wrong.
yet the forums are filled with all sorts of problems.
It's almost unbelievable that a support forum for users with problems is full of users with problems. imagine that. I can hardly believe that in this thread there are dozens of people complaining.
Either I wasn't clear are you are pushing my buttons, trolling, whatever. I meant there are LOTS of problems. Filled to the brim. All SORTS of problems. The fact that there are so many problems of such a large variety means the OS isn't all that great. If the OS were as good as posters like you are bragging about, then there'd be much fewer problems in the forum. Have I finally made it clear?
And I don't think it's necessarily the computer geniuses that are the problem. It's management. Lack of a decent QA dept. Sitting on billions instead of spending a tiny fraction of that to make things better.
Wasn't the whole point of Apple to make products that were easy to use, reliable, and not needing users to have to go through so much troubleshooting?

I'm sure it's a lot more than that. Most people probably call or visit the "Genius Bar."

So why is it that you have yet to post a link, or a quote, or anything at all to support that, we have you, a small number of others here and millions of people who just upgrade their phone and carry on using it.
Why should any credence in your opinion. Show us the numbers.

Yet I have no IOS problems, maybe you would do yourself a favor if you missed it as well.
Take your phone to an Apple Store and have them upgrade it properly. Back it up first.

I've had problems with almost every update, to the point that when I attempted to restore, it installed duplicate music files and boy, was THAT a pain in the butt to clean up!
That's an issue with syncing with iTunes, not the iOS itself.
Resync your music via iTunes again"
Didn't work. I've had iPhone since 2007 and there's ALWAYS been an issue with system updates. Most times I have to call unhelpful 'techs' who always want to wipe and start from scratch, rather than repair the damage done by the updates.
Updates don't cause damage. Faulty installations of updates can.

Aug 10, 2014 10:22 AM in response to enosmacby Robsonw1,My iphone 5 with iOS 7.1.2 today is going to sleep... I took my phone, try to check the time and my iphone not working. I tried to restart and when I connect with iTunes I got the information that my iphone is in DFU mode. I cannot exit from DFU mode... I have balck screen only. I have only one option - restore by iTunes. I try it. Now I stuck on the screen with logo apple and status of process (still not working) and on iTunes is "waiting for iphone". I wait 8h and there is no change. Now my iphone is bircked and not workign. Do you have the same problem? Any ideas to fix it? Help !

Aug 13, 2014 3:16 PM in response to mikesdad2005by RichCresswell,Let's just say you didn't back up your data, and let's just say you sat there watching the little bar progress from left to right.
Would you have done everything different?
All in all it is your responsibility to do this and that fact it is made easier by having a 'cloud' function to do this I cannot see the validity of warning people not to update!
It's no different as to say... Throwing your iPhone off a bridge and saying "why didn't apple catch it!?"
