Jul 5, 2014 1:23 AM in response to enosmacby ericfromwellington,As soon as the update was installed, which took a couple of attempts, 1 of my regular Apps would not open, then 2 hours ago my email kept closing before content was loaded. I decide to do a restart, now the iPad will simply not start.
Have 96% battery life, according to iTunes when connected to computer
I have held down the Sleep and Home buttons for ages, nothing
I'm on the 3rd attempt to restore to factory settings via iTunes, the 3rd attempt is trying to restore as new iPad
very annoyed!!!!
We are a 2 iPad house hold, the other iPad is also having app issues, as in Apps are closing soon after being started.
No restart for that Laptop

Jul 5, 2014 4:24 AM in response to enosmacby stevefrompoole,Got a similar problem on girlfriends 4s and Ipad 2. She decided to do the update without researching if it was stable.
Iphone finally managed a reset after multiple attempts and it seems ok.
Ipad had needed a full restore after freezing on update.
I know we're all told to do a back up before install but maybe Apple could put this on the instructions in bold on a separate page as part of the upgrade process?
We could choose to ignore it at our peril but I for one will not do an upgrade again this close to the release date - I've heard of cutting edge but this is the bleeding edge.
This is not the first issue I've had with an update on IOS which is why I wait but for goodness sake apple - enough to make me want to convert to Windows

Jul 5, 2014 9:43 AM in response to enosmacby smithgeek,I agree this is "buggy". This is getting worse than Windows. I heard a lot of crap about Windows..now it seems that the iOS is on par (i.e. slow boot up, buggy software, updates crashing...) with Windows.
My Wife's iPad Air now has to be reset and hopefully, the icloud data has been backed-up recently. My Wife uses here iPad Air for work.

Jul 5, 2014 10:38 AM in response to enosmacby tjdrexe,The same thing happened to me. It just froze mid-update. Unfortunately my iPhone 4S had not backed up the cloud since November 2013. I've lost so many pictures and important text messages. Is there any way to recover them?

Jul 5, 2014 12:29 PM in response to tjdrexeby IlDavo,Successfully upgrade to iOS 7.1.2 on iPad 3 (took more than 20 minutes, but it worked).
iPad 3 now routinely reboots without warning while using email and other common apps.
iOS 7.1.2 adds instability to the sluggishness it introduced to all my iDevices (IPhone 5s, iPad 3, iPad Mini-R, iPad Mini 2, iPad 2).
...at least Windows tells you WHY it's crashed when it crashes!

Jul 5, 2014 12:46 PM in response to enosmacby tpmccabe,IOS 7.1.2 update was fine on my iPad3; on my iPhone 5 not so good. At first seemed OK, then later when turning on I received the picture of 'a USB plug and iTunes'. This after I assured several family members that I never had a problem with IOS updates; their updates were OK. I have spent time researching the problem and will attempt to restore my iPhone. I did have several other things planned for this weekend.

Jul 5, 2014 1:00 PM in response to NenaAngby VicJB,wouldn't have lost them if you'd backed up to itunes or the cloud.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

If you've tried EVERY METHOD then you might as well throw the iPad away. But on the off chance that you might have missed something, why don't you post what you've tried? For example, have you:
- Rebooted your router by removing all power for about 15 seconds?
- Restored your iPad as NEW using iTunes?
- For your iPhone, rebooted your computer?
- Used a USB port directly on the computer, not a USB hub?
- Tried USB troubleshooting as described in the manual?

I Update my iPads Air (3 on family) to the 7.1.2 iOS update.
after this all ipads was unusable. Some applications are very slow... Ipads still frozen....
I try to reset, hard reset, restart.... And the problem is the same....
For example pdfnotes application, (to read PDF files and make annotations) work 2 minutes correctly and after don't work 1 minute...continuously...
Safari works and after, beginning to think ( .... Frozen....) After 1 minute works ....
i Don't correct this problem!!!

Jul 6, 2014 2:49 PM in response to wilyjcoyoteby Camille77NY,I was able to update my iPhone 5s just fine. But my sister didn't. She lost more than she thought she would have because for some reason iTunes had her last back up 3 days prior to the actual day she did the backup. It was a heartbreaking mess. Now I'm updating my iPad Air and I got the dreaded recovery mode screen. That screen is like Apple's version of windows' blue screen of death to me. I've had this problem before, years ago with my iPod touch 4g and unfortunately I lost quite a lot of work. I don't care for the excuses or the explanations anymore, it's time for apple to figure out a way to avoid this. Unless our photos and or documents are backed up and tucked in their comfy cloud, we're screwed. As someone who uses both devices heavily for work, I can't afford for this to keep happening. I'll back up my work as often as possible to prevent any more loss, but I don't have the time for the trouble with having to restore constantly. It's bothersome and mentally/emotionally draining. The truth is the drawbacks are just as strong as the attraction when it comes to apple, especially when you've been one to suffer the loss of memories or work due to a 'glitch'. No matter what, it's unacceptable.
