Hello there, Andygeol.

The following information from the online iTunes Help guide provides some steps to export and import playlists. You will just choose your USB stick as the location to where you are exporting it:

Save a copy of your playlists

Save copies of playlists or use playlists on another computer

Do any of the following:

  • Save a copy of a single playlist or use it in iTunes on another computer: Select the playlist, choose File > Library > Export Playlist, and choose XML from the Format pop-up menu.
  • Import an iTunes playlist: Choose File > Library > Import Playlist. The imported playlist includes only songs and videos already in your iTunes library. Unavailable items are removed from the list.
  • Save a copy of all your playlists: Choose File > Library > Export Library. The exported information is saved in XML format.

iTunes is designed to manage Apple devices. It doesn't have a feature that copies the files of a playlists to a USB device and then also save an appropriate .m3u file there so that you can play that list in sequence in your car. With your playlist visible in the iTunes window press CTRL+A to select all of the tracks, then drag & drop the selection into the USB drive in Windows Explorer and iTunes will copy each file onto the device. You can also export the .m3u file that represents the play order and save that to the USB drive however the exported .m3u file will contain absolute files paths pointing to the original locations of the files in your media folder. A while back I wrote a script called LocaliseM3U which can be used to remove the full file paths from the .m3u file so that it refers to the filename in the same folder as the .m3u. This playlist should play in your car as long as you've also copied in all of the songs.
