Possible Virus on Ipad Mini using Safari

My son recently tried to watch a video online using his IPad Mini. After clicking on a video link at watchcartoonsonline.com in Safari a pop up message came up stating, "http://www.supporthelp.com. Due To Trojan Virus Your Computer Windows Files Got corrupt,Error Code: Win32xepcj. Call System Administrator at: 1-844-660-2733." I went to Google and entered the number and I was directed to a website for a company selling antivirus software. When I click on "ok" to remove the pop up message, the message just continues to pop up rendering Safari useless. Any ideas on how to handle this and get back to being able to use Safari?

Thank you!

Scam. Any window that pops up in any browser claiming to have found any type of malware is flat out false. There is no software of any kind that can remotely search a computer's drive for malware through a browser.

Notice too that it says your "Windows Files Got corrupt" (lousy grammar). That tells you right away it's not even trying to account for what OS you're using and is assuming Windows.

Anyway, it's nothing but a scare tactic to get you to pay for worthless software you don't need.

I think you probably realized that the pop-up is probably fake (not from Safari but from the advertisement itself) and that it is most likely some sort of scheme set up so that you buy the antivirus software. Considering that, when you say "rendering Safari useless", do you mean that the application doesn't work, or that the pop-up covers the entire screen? If the entire Safari application itself has been corrupted, then you might need to restore the iPad, or take it to an Apple Store.

Does the same pop-up show up every time you access the webpage? If that's the case, I don't know if there is an AdBlocker you can install for the iPad (I know there are for Safari and Chrome on computers), but you might want to look into that to get rid of those pop-ups. If that doesn't work, then perhaps you may want to reconsider accessing watchcartoonsonline.com.

Hope this helps.
