Aug 4, 2014 4:59 AM in response to h_luehrsenby mike.battistella,I'm experiencing similar problems with a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010. My external monitor, an Asus PB278Q, is connected by a Lindy MiniDisplayPort -> DisplayPort cable. All Mac OS X Versions prior to 10.9.3 had no (only sometimes) problems to use the external display (and with full resolution - 2560x1440). Starting with 10.9.3 the PB278Q occasionally got no DisplayPort signal while working and regularly after waking-up from stand-by. Only a computer restart got the signal back for the external display. Since 10.9.4 the external monitor is mostly not recognized - neither at fresh startup nor at wake-up from stand-by. I've to reset the NVRAM and SMC and restart between 5 and 10 times (while praying) in order to get an image on the external display.
Connecting the monitor with the Apple MiniDisplay to DVI-single-link adapter works every time (but of course only in FullHD resolution). I haven't tried a DVI-dual-link adapter, yet.
It's very frustrating since I invested in a "more-than-HD" resolution monitor, but cannot use it properly in 2560x1440px mode.

Aug 4, 2014 7:40 AM in response to mike.battistellaby quarkdoll,It's incredibly frustrating - agreed.
Please file a bug via https://bugreport.apple.com/ -- it's our only recourse to have some sort of influence on what Apple deigns to fix for 10.9.6 and beyond.

Aug 17, 2014 2:45 AM in response to Hessel78by tetraxis,Yes, I have the same problem. After upgrade to 10.9.04 the video projector I used to connect over the thunderbolt jack is not being recognized by the system anymore. This is very **** embarrassing! In Windows you can at least roll back the driver if something stopped to work. I urgently need this problem to be fixed!!!

Aug 17, 2014 8:52 AM in response to Hessel78by ThatTomHall,Filed a bug report as well. As a game developer and photographer, this is severely cramping my workflow / ability to get things done. Get on it Apple. Rush an emergency fix of this alone, as this is ridiculous.

Aug 20, 2014 10:08 AM in response to Hessel78by BillClark91,Summary: Try disabling DropBox
I filed a defect with Apple and they requested various system configurations which I uploaded. I'm still working with an engineer but he recommended I try disabling DropBox. Once I quit DropBox applications, my second display detects properly and CPU does not spike to 101%.
While this is not a log term resolution, it does allow me to use a secondary display.

Aug 21, 2014 8:45 PM in response to Hessel78by SBani,I am having this same problem too with my mid 2012 Macbook pro on 10.9.4.
I am connected to a second display using a VGA cable and I was having no problem with it until I upgraded to 10.9.4, now it will not recognize the external monitor. This is a simple issue that Apple must solve with 10.9.5, do they even look at these posts?

Aug 21, 2014 8:56 PM in response to SBaniby quarkdoll,Please file a bug at https://bugreport.apple.com -- they don't officially read this forum, only users are here.
Theoretically, if enough bugs are filed against this, Apple will deign to fix it for 10.9.6 as well as make sure they don't release 10.10 broken from the get-go.

Aug 23, 2014 4:01 PM in response to therandyzoneby maniaco008,Running 10.9.4 with GTX 770 with MacPro 3,1. This has solved my issue. Second monitor on DVI-D port now is working. I am going to attempt to install CUDA to see if I can get back to work with Premiere.

gatd4's solution worked perfectly for me! It might not work for non-NVDIA Macs, but it worked on my 2008 Mac Pro. Thank goodness - good luck!

Aug 27, 2014 12:00 PM in response to quarkdollby quarkdoll,With cautious hope, i note that they re-classified my filed bug (17083693) no longer as a duplicate of another issue and re-opened it, now asking for the dongle make and model i'm using. (This happens for me with either a "Apple Mini-DP to Dual Link Adapter" (Part Number: MB571Z/A) or a Cable Matters DisplayPort cable). ...fingers crossed for a 10.9.6 fix...
