Currently I am able to do is go to Settings ---> General ---> Software Update ---> BUT it checks and the message is iOS6.1.6 Your software is up to date.
Many apps require iOS 7 to work. Can I upgrade the software on my iPod from iOS 6.1.6 to iOS 7 or does that require a newer device?
If I CAN upgrade, please provide a link and directions.

iOS 6.1.6 is the latest version for the 4th generation iPod touch.

You need a newer device to run iOS 7. Nobody on these boards knows if there will be any further iOS updates for that model, but if there are, they definitely wonât include iOS 7.
