Anyone know if removing & reinstalling FCPX and/or Compressor and declining the updates will be enough to restore BD burning? Or are the current download versions from Apple already "past the point of no BD-burn" ?
This is a long thread to sift through but first try the tip that AlChroma passed on early in it. In the export dialog, Settings, add and cancel Background as well as all the other add options.
If you download a new copy it will be the latest version, so if you want to roll beck you'll have to do it either from a version you archived or from a system backup. Any libraries that you've since updated won't open in that earlier version however.

Jul 13, 2014 8:08 PM in response to Russ Hby t1k,Thanks for the suggestion Russ, yes I saw AlChroma's post awhile back. I believe some folks experienced a problem where FCPX would hang at 66% indefinitely because Create Disc wouldn't launch at all, and found that toggling "Add: Background" just once would for whatever the reason remedy that. In my case I never experienced that problem, but that might be because the first time I used Share to Blu Ray I toggled those just to see how they worked, thus kickstarting it without even knowing it.
For the sake of providing more test data I tried another Share to BD image this afternoon: selected Black, then added & deleted a Background image, Logo Graphic, & Title graphic but it still failed and Create Disc threw the invalid format error.

Jul 14, 2014 10:33 PM in response to carterebby Ron Bourke,i may seem like I'm coming from left field being an Avid Media Composer editor, but I've been wrestling with the same issue for several days. I originally bought Toast and their blu-ray plug-in for BRD's but was very disappointed in the quality. When encoding and burning, black levels are raised significantly - making it a non-starter for me. I spent time with the tech support and they admitted that there was a problem and their programmers would need to work on it. They also reminds me that Toast is not a professional tool and I shouldn't expect too much. (It was quick and easy though)
So I bought Compressor 4.1.2 since as an apple product, it seemed like a more professional solution and I need the Dolby encoding functionality. I've now spent 6 days trying to get compressor to work, but have the same hang-up issue after the files are encoded and it just stalls and doesn't burn a disc in my LG burner. Thinking the burner might be the issue, I borrowed an Asus burner and the exact thing happens, except now I get the "either the video file or the audio file were not in a valid format." error message st the point where it stalls. Both burners showed in the Compressor menu and could be opened and closed using Compressor, so it knows what they are and where they are.
What this tells me is that your issue isn't with FCP since I don't have Final Cut - but with Compressor. I'm importing either a 10GB QT conversion or the 85GB QT master of my 60 minute film. These QT files play just fine by themselves and I even used the 10GB file for a big screen theater showing on a commercial projector and it looked and played great. I will keep monitoring this conversation since this is also driving me nuts. How can apple release a product with such an obvious flaw?

Jul 14, 2014 11:35 PM in response to Ron Bourkeby t1k,From what I've seen, FCPX installs both the Compressor and Create Disc engines and calls them when needed. The full Compressor app installs not only the Compressor & Create Disc engines, but also an advanced user interface to Compressor which permits direct adjustment & configuration of its encoder (which FCPX Share does not provide).
Compressor appears to successfully create an .264 file and .ac3 file every time whether Sharing from FCPX or the Compressor app. Create Disc is called to build the folder structures & files needed to display the Menu and generate code to support disc navigation (such as Chapters) and to MUX the .264 and .ac3 files into an .m2ts BluRay compliant file. If you Share to BluRay HDD and leave Finder open, you'll see Create Disc temporarily create a work folder just before it archives it into an image file, at which point it deletes the work folder.
In either case (Sharing from FCPX or the Compressor app) it's only after Create Disc is called when the process hangs and the invalid format error message is generated. As to Why? is the $1M question. If we take the error message to literally mean "either the video file or audio are in an invalid format" is Create Disc not happy with the .264 file or .ac3 file, and if so what doesn't it like about them? As many of us have found, the Master file plays fine in QT complete with Chapter icons, text, and navigation. What could Create Disc possibly not like about either of these files? That's the $2M question.

Jul 15, 2014 2:41 AM in response to Ron Bourkeby Tom Wolsky,Why? Because as you've seen in the thread, it's only happening to some users, perhaps only a very small percentage of users.
-
Jul 15, 2014 2:46 AM in response to t1kby Tom Wolsky,AAnd why doesn't it like some users files and not others? Or is it my Create Disc function is different from yours? Would love to know is anyone having this problem has trashed the CreateDisc.plist file.

Jul 15, 2014 2:57 AM in response to Ron Bourkeby Tom Wolsky,IIf you can make the files in Comprosser, can you mux and burn them in Toast without Toast doing any reencoding?
-
Jul 15, 2014 3:01 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Tom Wolsky,AAlso can you can a disk image out of Compressor? Another user could create a disc image from Compressor though not from FCP and could burn the image to disc using Toast.

Jul 15, 2014 7:33 AM in response to nordheideby nordheide,Now it is apples turn to solve the problem
-
Jul 15, 2014 8:20 AM in response to nordheideby Al Bubba,Yes, and in that department, I was just contacted by a Compressor tech at Apple in response to my Feedback gripe last week. So let's hope for some traction there. Ha, I sent him a link to this thread and told him to read up before he asks me any questions.

Jul 15, 2014 12:28 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby Bill Hotaling,Yeah, I agree. I also believe that most people aren't burning Blu-Ray discs with Compressor. They're mainly using it for DVD authoring. BR is still in its infancy and the big companies have tech gurus that are paid to fix these problems themselves.
Our office still is successfully burning with Compressor 3.5.3 version and I know most people do not have this because they do not have the FCP7 package. I do not know if you can purchase an older version or find one online someplace.
We are still in contact with the Apple lady, and she is on the job.

Jul 15, 2014 1:47 PM in response to Bill Hotalingby Ron Bourke,As an independent filmmaker, Blu-rays are critical since they offer one of the only ways to screen HD video on the big screen. Actually I would say that they are on their way out as online streaming takes over the consumer market. That said - I depend on having the ability to burn Blu-rays quickly and cheaply.
