What is the difference between "delete played episodes = off" and saving episodes?

I still don't understand what is the difference between setting "Delete played episodes" to off in the settings of a podcast in iTunes,

and marking episodes as saved?

Well, on difference, of course, is that when I manually "save" an episode, then it appears in the list of "Saved" episodes.

What I am interested in is the persistence: are episodes removed from my hard disk, if I did not save them manually but switched "Delete played episodes" to off?

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who can shed some lights on this for me.

Best,

Gabriel.

PS:

Of course, what I would like to have is a "set and forget" solution, i.e., I'd like iTunes to save all episodes of a specific podcast , as they become available.

Latest Mavericks, latest iTunes, on Macbook.

Hi GabrielZ,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

The information below may be able to answer your questions about managing your podcasts. If you want to keep your podcasts after you have watched them, then do not check the "Delete played episodes" option in Settings. The podcasts will be saved in your iTunes library until you delete them. If for some reason you did delete an episode, you can redownload it as long as it still exists in the iTunes Store. It's also a good idea to back up your iTunes library periodically.
