iTunes unsubscribed me from recently listened to Podcast

I'm noticing a problem with the unsubscribe function in iTunes. It's turning off updates to podcasts that I listen to. Sometimes podcasts that I'm listening to using iTunes at the time of the exclamation point popping up! I do listen to many of my podcasts on my iPhone, and sync my podcasts from the iTunes installation (I like to manually manage them since I have one of the 16gb phones).

I'm sick of having to keep telling iTunes that yes, I'm listening to that podcast regularly and you should keep updating it. Is the fact that I don't retain the files that i'm done with a problem? I hope not. I'm using the automatic delete played podcasts after 24 hours function so it would be a shame if that was the issue...

iTunes version is 11.2.2. (3).

OS X version is 10.9.3

The iOS version on the phone is 7.1.2
