linksys adsl2mue router

first I had a speedtouch modem that kept on cutting off. My provider assured me that there was nothing wrong with their server. I was advised by apple to buy an adsl modem. So I bought the adsl2mue. Now I still can,t connect. I logged on using the router and entered the correct setting (PPP0a)IP ETC....
My network config. in sys pref shows a green light and active internet connection and on my router set up webpage shows a connection. My Ip address, name, password, dns setting tseems to be correct. But saferi web shows no internet connection. I have reset pref. in sys pref. Still doesn't solve the problem. I have turned off the firewall on the mac. makes no difference. ANY HELP?

Sorry for the delay!
I am in the UK. I have been using the network util folder. I have run traceroute, ping and look up. When I run these tests on my supplies IP. I get a positive result from the above tests. The same when I run it on my router and my computer IP.I also ran these tests on the following websites bbc.co.uk, google.com, apple.com and yahoo.com. I can ping, traceroute, and lookup to the bbc IP. However when it comes to the other websites I get unable to find host on the traceroute and ping and on lookup I get query 1 ans 0 servfail.

I have turned off PPoe, applecare told me that the operating system doesn't support PPoA in the operating. The setting are on the router. My supply have to do something at their end.

You don't need to configure this router on a PC first.

Set your system prefs-->network-->show built-in ethernet-->tcp/ip

configure IPv4 using DHCP.

connect your linksys box to your mac

then goto http://192.168.1.1

most linksys boxes use admin and admin as the login name and password

then use the following settings.

The problem you have with this modem is that is is not a true modem it is also a router. But you can't configure the NAT settings. Therefore is it secure but if you want to run any services such as a webserver, mail server, bittorrent, voip, ichat av etc your stuck.

Thank you very much it is now working. When I came from the internet cafe the internet was working. It seems that there was problem with the provider side of things. I haven't spoken to them yet. For the past week they were telling me that my computer was faulty; setting, operating system etc....The more knowledge I gained about internet settings the more convinced that my machine wasn't the problem. Thanks again!
