Will an Australian iPhone work in the UK,

Hi,

I have a friends iPhone bought and used in Australia, it is unlocked but does not seem to connect to any network, I have tried a number of SIMs. I think it is an iPhone 3, the icons are there and the apps work but cannot connect to a network

I know that Vodafone and Orange support iPhones. Have you tried to open an account and get a properly programmed SIM? And, if your phone is still locked to your AU provider, you will need to have them unlock it for you.

Yes, UK is GSM. I think so is AU, but not sure. But more importantly is that the phone is a GSM phone and not a CDMA. The old 3G models came in two separate flavors - GSM or CDMA.

All uk carriers are GSM

If the 2 carrier's sims are not giving a signal ,what is the message if any you receive

How do you "know" it is unlocked ?
