Which version of Aperture did you upgrade from?
Where are the keywords missing? On your image files, when you are looking at the metadata in the "Info" pane in the Inspector? Below the images in the Browser? Or are the missing from the keywords list in the smart settings HUD; the Keywords HUD, or the Keywords Controls?
Sometimes the keywords simply appear to be missing, if you are viewing an event or album with new images. The keywords smart rules will only show the keywords, that already have been used for the images in the scope of the search. And the Keywords HUD may have a filter set. Check, if the Search field at the top of the HUD is cleared, if the HUD appears to be empty. The metadata overlays may have been disabled.
If you don't see keywords at all, repair your Aperture library:
Thanks for the reply, I had updated from ver. 2.1.4 running on a G-5. This updated library is still on the same HDD that came out of the G-5 running Leopard just dropped into a external housing, only my Aperture master library was on this drive. The keywords appear in the hud but not on the info pane or under images in the browser, they also appear in the keywords control. All newly imported images accept keywords ok and the search field at the top of the hud is clear.
An Apple tech had me repair my library once already to no avail. I am to receive a new HDD tomorrow, Tues. the 8th for a new vault and will back up this library before pro-ceding any farther. any help with this ??? will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much AJ6870

Does that mean, you are seeing keywords for newly imported images in the browser and the Info panel, but not for your older images? Will the older images show the keywords in the Info panel, if you assign new keywords to them?

Before backing up the library, make sure, the drive is correctly formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled). While you are debugging, I would simply copy the library to the backup drive and not bother to create a vault. Creaing a vault can hang, if the library has a problem.

Did you only repair, or also try to rebuild? After backing up the library, try to rebuild it.
Thanks, Yes pre update files don't show keywords in the info pane or under image in the browser, newly imported images accept keywords as they are supposed too. Older images do accept keywords and displays them in the info pane and browser, and all my keywords are displayed in the hud. Re listing keywords by hand is a last resort, my library is some 34,000 files.
I do intend to copy the library to a newly reformatted drive once I verify this library is free of unwanted files, then using the original drive as a vault? I have two mirrored drives in raid one vault of the original library set aside, last updated in May/June just before I updated to 3.5.1
I recall doing a repair but fuzzy on a rebuild at this point. Once this library is backed up I intend to get back will Apple to see what they have come up with? Thanks for the help I need it, and If anything works I will post it.
Hi Leonie, This question goes back some weeks, after updating my old 2.1.4 library to 3.5.1 I lost all my keywords tied to the images, they are in the hud. I have separated and created a new library by camera brand and all seems well in the new library "Nikon" however the old updated library "Canon" still does not show the keywords tied to the images in the browser after going thru the repair, rebuild sequences. I resorted to the restore process and got a message that my vault was created with ver 2.1.4 and could not be used as a restore back up ? Then after a second try was told that there was not enough disc space.? I don't quit understand, There is 139gb available and 326gb used on drive with the Canon library and the same with the vault from which I wish to restore from. Any light that you can shed on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks AJ

Hi Leonie, Going back to my July 8 post. I have separated and created a new library "Nikon" files only, and all seems well in the new library. My old original library "Canon" files which after updating from 2.1.4 to 3.5.1 still is without keywords linked to images in the browser after repair and rebuild as you recommended. I then tried to do a restore of the Canon library from a vault that was built before the update to 3.5.1 and got message that this was not possible for this vault was a prior version of Aperture. Upon a second try a message told me that a restore was not possible because there was not enough drive space ? Both the original drive and the vault drive have 139gb avail and 326gb used this sounds as if it was trying to create a copy ? Any resolution to my dilemma would be greatly appreciated. Thanks AJ
