Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I have just imported my CD's into iTunes using Apple Lossless with error correction checked but on play back through my Sonos system several albums have reduced sound. Can this be corrected and if so how? Else what has gone wrong?

I'm using iTunes 11.2.2.3 my Opsys is W7 and have just imported my CD's using Apple Lossless with error correction checked. However, on playback through my Sonos system several albums have reduced sound. Can this be fixed? If not what might be the cause and is there another option for importing that does not reduce sound levels?

Hi wannano,

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues with the sound quality of the tracks you have imported, you may find the following articles helpful:

iTunes 11 for Windows: Import songs from CDs

iTunes 11 for Windows: Choose import settings

On the other hand, if the quality is good but the tracks are simply too "soft" (low volume), you may find this article more useful:

iTunes 11 for Windows: Adjust the sound quality

For what its worth I found really really old CDs were mastered with a lower volume than modern ones. Back then you would have played the older CDs with other older CDs and not noticed this but when mixed with newer ones you now see the difference.

Other than adjusting the volume or trying the 'soundcheck' feature in iTunes, the only other option would be to use a sound editor to edit the tracks to boost the volume to match modern levels.

Note: This is not caused by the decay of CDs due to ageing. It is a difference in how the industry makes them i.e. sets the volumes these days.
