Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation won't appear on iTunes, Finder, or iPod reset utility. I use a Mac laptop.

My iPod shuffle 2nd generation will not appear on iTunes, Finder, or the iPod reset utility when connected. Everything about the shuffle works fine except it doesn't register when connected to my mac. The shuffle flashes three orange lights, meaning it is connected, and to not disconnect, but like I said it doesn't show up on my laptop anywhere. I have tried all apple support page suggestions and nothing works. Please help.
