I forgot to mention, I have dual screens so when I have chrome open in one screen and iTunes in the other I can't pause.
I wonder why it won't let me pause...it worked fine in 10.9.2 and below..

THE GOOGLE MUSIC EXTENTION WAS THE PROBLEM
i dissable the extentión in my google Chrome and its working.

Jan 5, 2015 6:25 AM in response to krendel122by mariorodriguez,I too was having this issue and recently (Jan. 2015) installed Google Music extension and started having this problem.
I went into chrome://extensions/ in the chrome browser and deleted the Google Music extension and all is working again.

Jul 4, 2015 11:23 AM in response to jwukitschby TheHectorG,I just disabled the Google Play extension and sure enough, that fixed the problem. I am now able to use the play, forward, and back buttons now.

it's strange (and sad) that a browser extension affects the overall OS in such a deep way...
