Pause/Play buttons not working?

Hi-

I have 2 Macs - one Mac Mini (Late 2012) and one iMac (Late 2013) and they both have Apple keyboards (one wired and one wireless).

When I am listening to iTunes, the play/pause/fast forward buttons don't work on the keyboards. This has been going on for about a month. I think this is a software issue but I am not sure. All the other function keys work (Mission Control, Launchpad, etc.) on the keyboards.

I am wondering whether other people are having this problem and if Apple will fix it in the next OS X update.

(I have OSX Mavericks 10.9.3 by the way)

Try updating to 10.9.4

I just updated to 10.9.4 - seemed to fix it for about 2 minutes.

I forgot to mention, I have dual screens so when I have chrome open in one screen and iTunes in the other I can't pause.

I wonder why it won't let me pause...it worked fine in 10.9.2 and below..

Try posting in the iTunes for Mac forum since it appears to only apply to iTunes.

Try to disable Google Play Music extension for chrome. It was blocking play/pause fn buttons for me on mpb with 10.9.4

THE GOOGLE MUSIC EXTENTION WAS THE PROBLEM

i dissable the extentión in my google Chrome and its working.

I have the same problem and I don't have the google music extension 😟, could it be apps too not just extension?, all button work except fast forward, rewind and play / pause.

The Google Music extension in Chrome was the cause of the problem for me, too. Thanks guys!

I too was having this issue and recently (Jan. 2015) installed Google Music extension and started having this problem.

I went into chrome://extensions/ in the chrome browser and deleted the Google Music extension and all is working again.

I just disabled the Google Play extension and sure enough, that fixed the problem. I am now able to use the play, forward, and back buttons now.

disabling the "Google Play Music" extension on Chrome solved my issue (as it did to others as well).

it's strange (and sad) that a browser extension affects the overall OS in such a deep way...

I just noticed this today. I was changing the keyboard controls in the system prefs and getting nowhere. Then I saw this and turned of the Google Music extension and the problem disappeared!

I don't know why I never had the problem before, maybe I just never tried playing itunes while on Chrome..
