When I try to open my documents, I get an error message stating, "The required index.xml file is missing."

What sort of documents? In what app?
I have the same issue when trying to open a saved Pages or Numbers document created or modified on my iPad Mini running iOS 7 from my older version of those apps on my iMac (running Snow Leopard and iWork '09). As a work around, export the document as an Excel or Word xlsx or docx file to iTunes on the iOS device, save it to the desktop, and then open and re-save in the older native format.
