Can you use an itunes gift card for in app purchases? I have money in my account and when I try to use it, it says I have no funds. And under my apple ID it will only let me select a credit card as payment and not a gift card? is there anyway to change this option without creating a new ID?

Could you have mistakenly entered the funds from the gift card into a different Apple ID? In that case, the funds are in the other Apple ID (in case you actually did do this).

Yes I redeemed the card correctly. It shows the funds in my account. I am able to make regular app purchases however, it won't let me make IN-APP purchases. when I go to my Apple ID the only option it gives me is to choose a credit card and won't let me use my credit for the INSIDE the APP purchase. I was trying to figure out if this was possible or if I'm just going to have to use a Credit card to make INAPP purchases.

This is exactly how it works when you've added a gift card to your iTunes account. Funds are ALWAYS taken from the gift card balance first. If there is no balance remaining on the gift card, the purchase price will be taken from the credit card you are currently using with your iTunes account.
FFor your own sake, do not create another Apple ID. That will just cause more problems for you. Did you redeem the gift card correctly and was the gift card activated properly when it was purchased? Gift cards have to be activated by the store employee that is processing the sale of the card.
The in app purchase should come out of the gift card first as long as enough funds are available on the card. If you are going to make the purchase one way or another, just go ahead and make it, and I believe that it will be deducted from the gift card anyway.

Good luck. Let us know what happens. It may help someone else in the future, but just to reiterate, there is no reason why it shouldn't work. Gift cards can be used for in app purchases.
