My windows computer wont detect my iPod classic

New to this so bear with me. I bought a used iPod Classic and up until recently it would sync with my iTunes library. Now, though, it wont sync and my windows wont even show that it's connected. What's going on here? Did a windows 7 patch negate the use of this model?
