Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard (USB) keep locking up

I am having some issues with my Apple Magic Mouse as well as my Keyboard (connected via USB). The two will simultaneously lock up (only for a few seconds at a time). It has done it twice already while submitting this forum. I'm in version 10.6.8 on my iMac. I have a 1 TB HD and only a few gigs used. I have tried a different mouse as well and having the same issues. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try the mouse in a different port; at the back of the computer if it is now connected to the keyboard. If that does not resolve it, reset bluetooth and try again in the same (different) port.

Reset Bluetooth for mouse... no luck. Used a DIFFERENT wired mouse in a different USB as well, no luck. Also tried a different USB port for keyboard. No luck.
