Q: Can a mid 2010 Mac Book Pro be used with a 27" ultra HD monitor?

Can a mid 2010 Mac Book Pro be used with a 27" ultra HD monitor? Will it provide a good viewing experience -- good being defined as having relatively sharp images. I would like a bigger monitor to make spread sheet work easier.

A mid 2010 MBP has a maximum external display output of only 2560 x 1600. So the 3840 x 2160 resolution of a UHD monitor will not be fully utilised.

Thanks. This is helpful. I assume from your response that a 27" inch with 2560 X 1440 would provide me the best viewing experience given the limitations of my "older" computer?

Yes.

There is an app called Mactracker which lets you look up the specifications of all Apple products past and present.
