macbook does not recognize superdrive

Operating system on MacBook up to date. Ran disk utility. Computer will not recognize the superdrive. Superdive appears when disk utility is opened but not by the computer.

Sometimes an SMC reset may help the computer recognize peripheral items

as well as internal components that may have issues. However to have a

diagnostic test done by an expert could work to an advantage if you are near

an Apple Store with Genius bar, and are in a location where the test is free...

Or, if you find that you are not, an Apple authorized service provider should be

able to test & diagnose the device and recommend a course of action if needed;

though a usual & traditional fee likely would apply for such a service.
