I don't know how to update my outdated PowerBook

I have a PowerBook G4, its running on OS X 10.4.11, and i am planning on using this exclusively for Pro Tools 11. but i need a more up to date version to use Pro Tools. it says i need 10.5 to get 10.9 but i have no clue how. Any suggestions?

The early PB G4 from Jan 2001 to Nov 2002 can only be upgraded to MacOS X 10.4.11. Those with the 867MHz or greater CPU can run Mac OS X 10.5.8 maximum. If you purchase. Mac OS X 10.5 install disks (eBay and some links below) then be sure to get the ones with the large X on the front and not the all gray type. The later are machine specific and will not work in most machines.

There is no upgrade path in a PowerPC (non-intel Mac) from Leopard 10.5.8

to Mavericks 10.9.x. Your most likely upgrade path to meet software require-

ments (should your protools be asking for an OS X 10.9+) is to get an Intel

based Mac and be sure it has suitable upgrade potential as well.

Even an early MacBook (2006 to 2010) can run circles around an old PowerBookG4.

However not all early MacBook models can run Mavericks 10.9.4, or Yosemite OS X.

However if your old PowerBook G4 truly meets your ProTools minimum requirement

for OS X and other hardware support (RAM, etc) you could try & maybe get a white

label OS X disc from Apple by calling them and ask for an OS X system specialist,

have your PowerBook serial number handy, and say you need to get a Replacement

OS X Leopard 10.5 DVD, with white label, so you can upgrade your Apple portable.

They may (still) have some. In the US, you'd call the 1-800-MY-APPLE, or applecare.

A recent MacBook/Pro (less retina display, w/ optical drive) may be more adequate. 😐
