Why iMac early 2009 beep 3 times?

I want to upgrade the ram of my 24 inch iMac (early 2009. It currently has two PC3 DDR3 1066 2GB running it. I bought a pair of PC3 DDR3 1066 4GB as Apple suggests on its support page. Even though everything is it should, every time I install the new ones and try to start up my computer it makes three beeps. I've read that this is a hardware error but I am sure I have the right spects on new ones, what can I do?

Beeps on startup:

1 beep = no RAM installed

2 beeps = incompatible RAM types

3 beeps = no good banks

4 beeps = no good boot images.

5 beeps = processor is not usable

Make sure the RAM modules are properly seated.

Macs are very, VERY picky about the RAM specs they need.

If you purchased this RAM from a local source, than there is a high degree of certainty that the you purchased is NOT the right spec'd. RAM for your Mac model.

No local electronics or computer retailers will have RAM that will be compatible with Macs.

You may have to return the RAM.

FYI, your iMac model can take a total of 8 GBs of RAM, max..

Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
