My phone locked while updating ios7.1.2 Contacted Apple Care and they referred me to Tech Care Live Inc. who will do an online virus removal for $300. Has anyone had any dealings with this firm?
That is a scam. Do not give them your information or credit card number.
There is no known virus for a non jailbroken phone.

I suspect that you didn't actually speak to AppleCare. If you search "Apple technical support" though Google, the first entry is for a company call Yogi. If you want to contact AppleCare, use the Contact Us link at the bottom of every forum page.
