Can I delete individual songs and podcasts off my phone using itunes?

I downloaded a mass of podcasts, using the podcast app, and it says that they delete when they are done, I even manually delete... but my iphone (4s) is still full of the data they took up. So I plugged into itunes, and lo and behold, they still show up. So I selected them, and right clicked... and no menu... I can't delete them! I tried deleting some songs from my iphone and couldn't do that either... I tried selecting and going up to edit to delete, but no luck. Is there no way to delete individual songs and things off your iphone? I know I can delete everything and start again... but that is stupid! I should be able to do one or two at a time!
