Made a new project in 10.1.2 and Send to Compressor
Set settings
Set location to Desktop.
Export.
File turns up in user/ann/movie.
So does the fcp project and I cannot figure out how to change that.
Apple is all very new to me: used to windows and Premiere.
imac 2.9 ghz i7
16 gig 1333 ddr
ssd and 1tb internal drive
In Compressor Preferences, set the default location to Desktop. If it doesn't save to the Desktop, please take a screen shot of the batch window and post it. Like so.

Ah I was going about this the wrong way.
I just selected Desktop instead of dragging. Somethings are not always that obvious.
Its rendering now to my Desktop.
Yet another Apple mystery solved.
