iDVD runs fine until another app is launched. Then it's 'not responding' and I've given it up to a half hour to recover.
Activity monitor says it's regularly over 100%.
MacBook (Fall 2010).
Tossed cache.db and plist.
Other ideas please?
How much memory do you have installed and how much free space is on your boot drive? It's strongly recommended that a minimum of 20-25 GB of free space be maintained on the boot drive for iDVD usage.

Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
It the above doesn't help Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try iDVD there. Then reboot normally and try again.
Thank you for posting that but I've already followed your wonderful instructions from another thread.
PROBLEM SOLVED... THE MEDIA WAS AT ISSUE (was ok in a player such as VLC).
Tried another movie, all ok.
Perhaps that's worthy of addition to the knowledge base ... it's not a common thought to confirm the media.

For others who might run into this problem can you tell us what the media was, its format and what you changed it to to fix it?
Oh well... concluded too soon ... it still does it with another movie.
All I can conclude is that it might be the file ... they're all avi's, maybe it's the length.
What I do know is that next I'm going to convert the offending file to mov or mp4 and then try it.
Klaus1 and Bengt Wärleby are much more knowledgeable about video formats and iDVD so hopefully they'll pop in soon and can give you their take on it. I almost exclusively do still photo slideshows with iDVD.
