Older airport express with newer airport extreme

I have had an airport express, A1084, set up on my network for an old laser printer for about 8 years. It has worked flawlessly.

I am currently running Mavericks on my desktop and just updated from a 2nd gen airport extreme to a 5th gen extreme and now I cannot get the A1084 to connect.

I have a MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard and I tried to connect with that but the express never showed up even when plugged in using the ethernet cable. It worked just fine until I upgraded the airport extreme. Any suggestions?

Support for the original, 802.11b/g - only AirPort Express is gone in Mavericks.

It was discontinued over six years ago, and may not work in conjunction with the latest Extreme or Time Capsule.

John I am aware of that even though it has been working properly since I installed Mavericks last fall. I do however, have a Snow Leopard laptop and it is supported with that. Are you suggesting that it won't show up on the Snow Leopard machine because it is not supported on the 5th gen extreme?

I'm suggesting that is a possibility, and one of several reasons the original Express is no longer supported.
