How can I get my Samsung monitor's usb hub to work with my Macbook Air Mid-2013?

I've got a mid-2013 Macbook Air and I just purchased a Samsung SA850 monitor to use with it. The display works great via thunderbolt, but I can't seem to get the built in USB3.0 hub to work. I've plugged in the provided powered usb cable to both USB ports on my macbook, but it doesn't recognize any attached devices, nor does it show up in System Profiler.

I tried seeking out a driver, but the only one for this model is for windows..

Any ideas?
